1. Opportunity Is Everywhere
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that this trade is full of opportunities. Whether you want to chase money, travel, or settle down, the choice is yours. Here are some examples of the opportunities available:
Travel the Country: You can work anywhere—California, New York, Arizona, or Colorado. Just sign the books and wait for a call.
Chase the Big Jobs: High-paying transmission jobs are out there if you’re willing to live on the road.
Storm Restoration: After hurricanes or big storms, linemen are in high demand for power restoration. These jobs are intense but pay well.
Settle Down: If you prefer stability, find a utility job or take a local 4/10 call and enjoy 40-hour weeks.
In my career, I’ve worked in states from Washington to New Mexico, Michigan, and Louisiana. The sheer variety of work and locations is part of the lineman reality.
