My name is Justin Meredith, and I am an HVAC installation professional. In this blog, I am going to share my journey as an HVAC installer and what it’s like to work in this trade.
I got started in the HVAC industry five years ago after going to school and getting certified at ESCO Institute. I was drawn to the field because of my friends who were already working in it and they talked about how much they enjoyed working with their hands and the sense of accomplishment they felt at the end of the day.
For me, the most rewarding thing about working in this trade is seeing a system up and running and knowing that the customer is grateful for my work. It’s especially satisfying when it’s hot outside and they are able to stay cool.
However, the hardest thing about getting started in this trade is the heat in the summertime. It takes a little while to get acclimated and it’s not for everyone.
If you’re thinking about getting into the HVAC trade, I recommend starting as a helper and getting on-the-job training. It’s the best way to go and you’ll learn more by being thrown into the field.
I have one piece of advice for future technicians watching this video: don’t give up. You will have hard days and tough days, but at the end of the day, it’s worth it. If you’re passionate about working with your hands and want a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day, then the HVAC trade is for you.
