Knot Tying – Clove Hitch

A Clove Hitch is a type of knot that is commonly used to secure a rope to a post, pole, or other cylindrical object. It is known for its simplicity and ease of use, making it a popular knot for a variety of outdoor activities such as camping, boating, and rock climbing. Also very commonly used in the trades as a secure knot for rigging purposes and much more.

One of the advantages of the clove hitch is that it can be easily adjusted or undone, making it a versatile knot for a variety of situations. However, it should be noted that the clove hitch may slip under heavy load or when used on objects with irregular shapes, so it is important to use caution and always test the knot’s stability before relying on it in critical situations. This is also a reason why we add at least one half hitch to secure the knot. To us; a Clove Hitch isn’t done until it has a half hitch backing it up!
