Body Measurements

You can use your body measurements to get rough accurate measurements! What do I mean by that?

Do you know how tall you are? If you are roughly 6 feet tall, your wingspan (fingertip-to-fingertip) is probably, roughly 6 feet. You hand wingspan? I’ll guess it’s around 8.5 to 9 inches if you’re a 6 foot tall person! But, it only takes a minute to measure yourself. That way, you can use your hands, feet or wig span to measure things.

How Can This Help

You may be wondering…”why do I need to know this?” & you don’t need to know this. This is just nice to know! How do you use your body to measure things?

When it comes to a trade like the lineman trade, often times you just need a rough measurement of something. A lineman will ask for 12 feet of copper… does he need “exactly” 12 feet? Probably not. However, you can use your wingspan 2 times (if you’re 6 foot) to get a rough accurate measurement of 12 feet.

The same goes for your hand. You can measure your finger wingspan, thumb-to-palm, palm-to-palm & finger width and know what each of the measurements are. You can use your hands in the future to measure 1 inch all the way up to 18 inches pretty accurately!

Learn This Skill

As much as this isn’t necessarily something you “need” to know, this is an easy little skill/trick to have in your pocket. Knowing the lengths of your body parts is a pretty neat thing to know. Don’t have a tape measure? No problem, you should have your hands and arms!

If you looking to get into a blue collar trade, learn this easy little skill! It could come in “handy”.
